Multicriteria Decision-Making for Evaluating Solar Energy Source of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia generates more than 98% of its electricity through hydrocarbon resources. To reduce the consumption fossil fuel resources and protect environment, government is planning to make renewable energy an essential part mix. In this study, due country’s abundant solar potential, has been selected as source generate in Arabia. The two technologies, photovoltaic (PV) thermal, have analyzed three different locations within country. Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques were used rank cities for each technologies. SAW(Simple Additive Weighting)-AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) MCDM method based on climate, environmental, technical, economic, social adopted analyze suitability technology all locations. assign weights criteria AHP was used, while SAW used. results show that PV technology, Abha ranked 1st with a performance score 91%, making it most suitable location, followed by Jeddah 83%. While thermal 96%, 91%. systems generated maximum 11,019 MWh Abha, produced 14,000 Jeddah.
